ELKHART COUNTY, Ind. – Elkhart Community Schools is delaying the first day of classes for students due to power outages and storm damage.
The storm did not damage the school, but instead caused lots of damage along California Road, where the school is located.
Fallen trees hitting vehicles, homes, and knocking down powerlines, which could hinder some children form making it to the first day of school scheduled for Thursday, August 12.
Some schools are still without power at this time, causing the first day for students to now start on Friday, August 13.
The district says it will update parents and students as the power starts getting restored and will let everyone know if the first day has to change again.
The corporation will update the community as needed on Facebook.
