Elkhart Riverwalk Grand Prix Friday and Saturday, road closures start Thursday

ELKHART, Ind. -- The City of Elkhart will close sections of the roads surrounding NIBCO Park starting on Thursday for the Elkhart Riverwalk Grand Prix taking place on Friday and Saturday.

City officials expect the roads to reopen Saturday night or Sunday.

Karting practice and qualifying will take place on Friday with the kart races beginning Saturday morning.

There will be food vendors, live music, a car show, a karaoke contest with cash prize, and a cornhole competition.

There will also be a Kids Zone and if your child is between the ages of 3 to 9, there will be the Kem Krest Elkhart Grand Prix Power Wheels Competition on Saturday in Central Park.

Entry fees are $25 per racer. You can sign them up here. Limited spots remain.

Every child participant will receive a hat and medal and winners from the Rookie and Pro division will each receive a trophy.

Friday:

  • 1 p.m. - Mayor's Challenge Race
  • 5 p.m. - Kids Zone and vendors open
  • 5 p.m. - Karting practice and Qualifying
  • 8 p.m. - Live band karaoke contest with $1,000 prize
  • 8:30 p.m. - Pro Fleet Pro Dash Race

Saturday:

  • 8 a.m.  - Lochmandy Motors 5k Run/Walk
  • 10 a.m. - Renegade RV Car Show and karting races begin
  • 10 a.m. - Patrick Industries Cornhole with $5,000 purse
  • 10 a.m. - Vendors and displays open
  • Noon - Kem Krest Power Wheels Grand Prix and Kids Zone open
  • Noon - Sponsor Challenge Race
  • 3 p.m. - Thor opening ceremonies
  • 3 p.m. - Genesis First Responder Challenge
  • 4 p.m. - Size Matters Performance
  • 4 p.m. - Patrick Industries Cornhole final brackets
  • 4:30 p.m. - Karting Main Feature Races
  • 7:30 p.m. - Karting awards ceremony
  • 8 p.m. - Hillbilly Rockstarz - country band
  • 10 p.m. - Morryde fireworks finale
