GOSHEN, Ind. -- The Elkhart River Restoration Association (ERRA) announced they released 3,250 walleye fingerlings into the Elkhart River on Monday, their fifth release since 2014.

ERRA officials say about half of the walleye fingerlings were released at the boat launch in Shanklin Park, below the Goshen Dam Pond.

“The ERRA’s mission is to ensure a clean environment for wildlife and community recreation within the Elkhart River Watershed, and we hope the community enjoys fishing for these beautiful fish,” said an ERRA spokesperson.

Officials say remaining fish were released at the boat launch in Violett Cemetery, above the dam.

The fingerlings are said to be between six and nine inches long but have the potential to grow to over 25 inches, weighing between four and seven pounds, with a lifespan of eight or more years.
