UPDATE TWO: Elkhart Police Department Investigating Fatal Crash, E Mishawaka Rd/Co Rd 20

The Elkhart Police Department is actively investigating a two-vehicle fatal crash that occurred earlier this morning on E Mishawaka Rd/Co Rd 20.

The Elkhart Police Department reports the Elkhart City 911 Communications Center received a call around 4:44 a.m. Thursday regarding a crash with injuries on E. Mishawaka Road/C.R. 20 and Center Drive.

Officers and other first responders arrived shortly.

Authorities' initial investigation determined a Cadillac was traveling west on E. Mishawaka Road when it struck an eastbound Toyota Yaris.

The man driving the Yaris was pronounced dead at the scene.

The man driving the Cadillac had to be extricated by Elkhart firefighters.

He was taken to the hospital for evaluation and treatment of his injuries. Police say as of the latest information he was in stable condition.

The deceased driver's name is withheld at this time, pending family notification.

Police say this remains an active investigation.

UPDATE: Police confirm the driver of a white Cadillac heading west hit a Toyota Yaris heading east. The first driver is now hospitalized while the second driver was killed. Officers say both drivers are male.

ORIGINAL: ELKHART COUNTY, Ind. -- The Elkhart Police Department responded to a fatal crash early Thursday morning near Concord High School.

According to Elkhart Police, the crash happened on East Mishawaka Road near Minutemen Way.

Police say East Mishawaka Road/C.R. 20 will be closed between South Main Street and U.S. 33/ C.R. 111 for at least the next few hours.

This is an active and ongoing investigation and will be updated as we learn more.
