Elkhart father, wife charged with Murder of 6-year-old son

ELKHART, Ind. -- The Baugo Township Fire Department was called to residence in the 30000 block of C.R. 22 on Aug. 3 around 9 p.m. for a call regarding a 6-year-old boy being unconscious and breathing after allegedly hitting himself in the head due to behavioral issues.
Medics arrived to find the child unconscious but still breathing, but he later died at Elkhart General Hospital.
The Elkhart County Homicide Unit said the boy was found with multiple injuries, including bruising.
First responders were told the injuries were self-inflicted, but medical staff did not believe that to be true.
Franklin Elmore, the boy's father, alleged the boy regularly hit himself and his behavior had worsened.
When investigators searched Franklin and Cheyenne Elmore's phones, they found dozens of photos and videos capturing the boy's abuse.
Authorities say none of the evidence pointed to self-inflicted injuries.
Case documents go on to state multiple messages between the parents also pointed to the abuse of the boy.
Investigators say the night the boy was taken to the hospital, surveillance video shows Franklin forcefully slamming him to the ground.
Authorities say when the boy became unconscious, Franklin cleaned up the room before calling 911, about 10 minutes after the alleged abuse stopped.
Documents state the boy was found in the living room, not in his room, indicating he was moved.
Cheyenne is accused of knowing what was done to the boy but doing nothing to protect him and lying about what happened.
Both Cheyenne and Franklin face one count of Felony Murder each.
