ELKHART, Ind.—The Elkhart fire Department just got a new hazmat truck.
The vehicle will be used in emergencies involving hazardous materials, such as chemical spills, in Elkhart, Elkhart County and the surrounding areas.
The department’s old vehicle, a 1985 hazmat truck, had to have a trailer attached to it because they were running out of room in it.
“By acquiring this piece of equipment now we have a lot of updated equipment, computer equipment, technology in the new vehicle that will definitely help with safeguarding the community,” Assistant Chief Steve Kamp of the Elkhart Fire Department said.
The new truck officially arrived to the station on Tuesday.
