SOUTH BEND, Ind. -- Hometown Coach Travon Curry looks to bring Michiana a new era of Elkhart Lions football.

It doesn't take much to motivate team that didn't reach their full potential a year ago.

"I feel that everybody on the team has bought in we weren't all bought in last year and that may be part of the reason why we went 3-7," Senior Wide Receiver Cade Tyrajowski said.

In 2022, the Lions finished 7-3, therefore calling this past year a "fluke".

"Last year was a fluke for real. We going to show people who the real Elkhart is," Senior Defensive End Mariyon Dye said.

Strong words from the 4-star recruit, committed to the University of Tennessee, who looks forward to leading the 'New Era' of Elkhart Lions football.

"It's a lot of new stuff and new coaches. New strength coach. Really new way how we run our practice, really everything just feeling new and it's way better for sure," Dye added.

"I feel like we turned the program completely around with a new coach Coach Curry has definitely brought a better program and we're gonna do some big things this year," Senior Linebacker Tyrique House said.

The players speak highly of their new Head Coach Travon Curry.,

Curry graduated from Elkhart Central High School in 2005 and has been back with the program in various roles since 2009.

Now, he's leading the new era.

"it's a new era of Elkhart football with the right people, a lot of Elkhart people who've been there before, but the old Elkhart perspective that they had of us football wise is gonna be different," Curry mentioned.

The team already seems to be stronger and more locked in. Some of that could because of how Curry has chosen an acronym for the word "LEAD" as a form of guidance for the program.

"L is for love he has for effort that as for accountability and then D is for discipline so we're gonna build this program off lead right but it's gonna be love effort accountability on and off the field and discipline on and off the field to those so that's the new era will be our hashtag this year we'll have a different one next year but that lead is gonna be that's our program pillars and be here as long as I'm here and I'm gonna be here for a long time," Curry added.
