Elkhart County sheriff's office investigating two fatal crashes

ELKHART COUNTY, Ind. – The Elkhart County Sheriff’s Office is investigating two fatal crashes.

Officials say that a vehicle driving westbound on Highway 6 towards CR 37 crashed into the rear end of another vehicle also heading westbound and was stopped at the intersection.

The vehicle heading westbound attempted to swerve out of the way but was traveling too fast. The driver of the stopped vehicle sustained fatal injuries.

The identity of the deceased has not yet been revealed.

The driver that rear-ended the victims, 54-year-old James Murdock of Fort Wayne, was transported to the hospital for blood to be drawn.

In the second crash, a vehicle was driving northeast on CR 22 south of CR 26 when it left the roadway and struck a street sign and a tree, deputies said.

The driver and passenger were pronounced dead at the scene. The driver has been identified as 56-year-old Charles Wysong of Middlebury and the passenger has been identified as 94-year-old Goldie Randolph.

Both crashes are currently under investigation.
