Elkhart County Parks to host 'Polliwogs in a Bog' and 'Night Hike' Friday

Elkhart County Parks Department

ELKHART COUNTY, Ind. -- The Elkhart County Parks Department invites the public to attend two free activities happening on Friday at River Preserve County Park.

The first activity is "Polliwogs in a Bog," where a naturalist will lead the group in search of polliwogs.

Polliwogs are tadpoles that may become frogs, toads, salamanders or newts.

Organizers say the group will also search for other strange creatures who call wetlands their home. Aquatic nets will be supplied.

Participants should come prepared to wet their feet.

Participants will meet at the Benton Dam parking lot River Preserve County Park at 5 p.m.

You can learn more about this event on the Elkhart County Parks website.

Later that same night from 8:30 to 10 p.m., the public is invited to a free "Night Hike" with Naturalist James to explore the forest nightlife.

The hike will focus on spiders, owls, and coyotes.

Organizers say if it’s a clear night James will talk about the stars and constellations as well.

Participants should meet at the Benton Spillway at the River Preserve County Park.

You can learn more about this event on the Elkhart County Parks website as well.
