Elkhart County man charged with five counts of Child Molestation

Elkhart County Jail

ELKHART COUNTY, Ind. -- A 66-year-old Elkhart man has been arrested after a child he allegedly sexually abused for years came forward to the Elkhart County Sheriff's Office earlier this month.

Authorities received a report of the abuse from the 13-year-old victim on April 10.

That report alleges that Kirby L. Oberlin would take the child for rides on his four-wheeler before taking them back to his home and abusing them.

The victim told authorities that Oberlin touched them inappropriately, starting when they were 11 years old.

The first time it happened, the victim says, they told him to stop, and he stopped.

"[The victim] stated that Oberlin told [them] to come back tomorrow or something else would happen," the ECSO said. "Victim stated that this made [they] feel scared and sad. Victim stated that [they] went back to Oberlin's house and would be over there often."

Kirby Lamar Oberlin is charged with five counts of Child Molesting-Fondling or touching with child under 14.
