Driver injured and arrested at hospital following two-vehicle crash
ELKHART COUNTY, Ind. -- The Elkhart County Sheriff's Office reports that deputies responded to S.R. 120 and York Hills Drive in Middlebury for a two-vehicle crash around 6:55 p.m., Thursday.
The report states a 2010 Ford Fusion, driven by 30-year-old Darren Jackson of Middlebury, was traveling east on S.R. 120 west of York Hills Drive.
Deputies say a 2008 Nissan Sentra, driven by a 50-year-old Middlebury woman, was also traveling east on S.R. 120, turning north onto York Hills Drive.
Authorities say Jackson then struck the Sentra's front-end, before going off the south side of the road and striking several large rocks, a NIPSCO utility pole, a stop sign, rolling over onto its passenger side wheels, and finally striking the entrance sign to York Hills Sun Homes.
Jackson was taken to the Elkhart General Hospital for complaints of pain to lower extremity back.
Deputies say due to Jackson displaying signs of impairment, alcohol is believed to have been a factor in the crash.
He was subsequently arrested at Elkhart General Hospital.
The 50-year-old driver reported no injuries and was wearing her seatbelt at the time of the crash.
Deputies say it's unknown if Jackson was wearing his seatbelt.
