Police chase ends in rollover crash with suspect striking tree, utility pole, and being ejected

ABC 57

GOSHEN, Ind. -- The Goshen Police Department reports officers responded to 711 S. 11th St. regarding criminal mischief in progress around 2:36 a.m., Thursday.

The caller, a 49-year-old man, told police the suspect, later identified as 46-year-old Johnny Lee of Goshen, had left the scene after trying to run him over.

Officers found the suspect vehicle and attempted to make a traffic stop, at which point Lee fled, leading to a pursuit.

Lee then lost control of his vehicle in the 59000 block of S.R. 15.

The Elkhart County Sheriff's Office responded to the crash. Lee's 2020 Honda Civic had struck a tree, rolled over three to four times, and crashed into a utility pole.

Lee was also ejected from the Civic.

Authorities say Lee was found breathing and semi-conscious. He was airlifted to Memorial Hospital for a broken leg and possible internal injuries.
