18-year-old Dowagiac man charged with multiple felonies after Friday shooting
DOWAGIAC, Mich. -- The Dowagiac Police Department has a suspect in custody after a shooting took place Friday night in the 300 block of W. Telegraph Street.
Police say the call came in at roughly 11:20 p.m. on Nov. 22, and when officers responded to the area they found one victim with a gunshot wound.
"During the course of the investigation, officers learned the incident began when three individuals were physically fighting each other," authorities said. "During the assault the suspect produced a handgun that he had on his person concealed and began shooting at the victim. The suspect then fled from the scene on foot.
The victim was taken to a local hospital and received treatment for non-life-threatening injuries.
The suspect was identified as 18-year-old Marcus Haskins, of Dowagiac, and taken into custody without incident shortly after 1:30 a.m. on Saturday, Nov. 23.
Haskins was arraigned on the following charges in Cass County:
- 2 counts of assault with intent to murder,
- 2 counts of assault with intent to do great bodily harm, Dangerous Weapon- Carrying with unlawful intent,
- 2 counts of assault with a dangerous weapon,
- 5 counts of Felony firearm.
His bond was set at $300,000, and, as of noon on Nov. 27, he is currently lodged in the Cass County Jail.
