Dog shot and killed at apartment complex, additional shots fired

BENTON TOWNSHIP, Mich. -- Two people were involved in a shooting during a confrontation that occurred after a dog was fatally shot at an apartment complex Wednesday afternoon, according to Benton Township Police.

Police were called to Blossom Acres around 3 p.m. for reports of shots fired.

When police arrived they found a dog with a gunshot wound. Additional shots were fired during a confrontation after the dog had been shot, police said.

Berrien County Animal Control responded to the scene and attended to the dog. It later died of its injuries.

Police are working to identify the people involved in the shooting.
