Death investigation following discovery of body and crashed vehicle nearby

LA PORTE COUNTY, Ind. -- The La Porte County Sheriff's Office reports a deputy was dispatched to the 3600-north block of County Line Road Monday afternoon regarding an unconscious subject.
Authorities say a motorist traveling on County Line Road saw an individual lying on an access road just east of County Line Road.
The subject was identified as 50-year-old Nicholas E. Irvine of Michigan City.
Deputies say life-saving measures were provided to Irvine on scene by first responders.
Irvine was then taken to an area hospital where he was later pronounced dead.
A deputy then found a 2009 Chevrolet crashed in a ditch in an agriculture field between C.R. 1100 West and County Line Road, just south of C.R. 400 North.
Deputies say Irvine had been the one operating the vehicle.
Authorities say the on-scene investigation determined the vehicle enter the field from a nearby access road.
Toxicology test results are pending, and an autopsy will be performed to determine cause and manner of the death.
