VAN BUREN COUNTY, Mich. -- The Van Buren County Sheriff's Office reports deputies and detectives are investigating a deadly house fire that occurred around 7 a.m. Friday in the 29000 block of Shaw Road near Big Cedar Lake.

The report states that an alarm company notified Van Buren County Central Dispatch that a heat detector was activated, and they were unable to contact the resident.

Lawton Fire Department arrived at the scene to find the home on fire.

LFD crews were then able to get the fire under control while preventing further property damage.

Deputies arrived shortly after, learning the home was occupied by a single person.

After the fire was under control, the lone resident was found inside deceased.

The cause of the fire is unknown, and the investigation is ongoing.
