Deadline is Jan. 15 for DNR grant program geared towards clearing water ways

SOUTH BEND, Ind. -- The Indiana Depart of Natural Resources announced earlier this week that the deadline to submit applications for the Lake and River Enhancement (LARE) grant program is Jan. 15.

State officials say the LARE program is designed to protect and improve aquatic habitats for fish and wildlife while maintaining public access to Indiana’s lakes, rivers and streams. It provides financial and technical assistance for project aimed at reducing nonpoint sediment and nutrient pollution.

Eligible projects included, but are not limited to:

  • Logjam removal
  • Wetland creation
  • Dam removal

Applicants are encouraged to consult with LARE staff about potential projects before applying. Applications must be completed and submitted electronically.
