Day one of the Four Winds Invitational tees off from the South Bend Country Club

SOUTH BEND, Ind — The Epson Tour Road to the LPGA hosts 144 of the best golfers.

The 43rd annual Epson Tour made its 15th stop of the tour for a three-day series in South Bend.

Round one of three started with heavy fog but as the green became more visible, players like Cydney Clanton adjusted.

“When you woke up and you looked outside, you knew there was a chance and you just got to be mindful when you’re warming up,” Clanton added.

After 18 holes, Clanton sits atop of the leader board tied for second, finishing four under par. When asked for her level of satisfaction on a scale of 1-10 after round one, Clanton said “Really high. I would say probably an 8, any time you can go out and hit in the high 60s is a great day”.

Hitting three under par, tied for 14th, and playing in familiar territory is Notre Dame alum Becca Huffer.

“Super fun to see my old coaches and having them come out and support me and just a fun week,” Huffer mentioned.

Huffer played for Susan Holt during her collegiate days and coach Holt was in attendance, giving her former player some added motivation.

“Watching Becca's is pretty relaxing honestly because she's always hitting the fairway. She's got really good, high percentage of hitting, hitting it on the green and opportunities to make birdie so you know, it's just always pulling for helping those body parts go in," Holt said.

Round two of the Four Winds Invitational begins Friday with a tee time of 7:30 a.m.

The lone leader is Michaele Finn, hitting five under par.
