UPDATE: Railroad bridge repaired over St. Joseph River, additional maintenance continues
Harbormaster Mike Moran UPDATE: As of 10:30 p.m., Monday, the CSX Railroad bridge over the St. Joseph River is operable, according to Harbormaster Mike Moran.
Moran says the bridge will need additional work on other minor issues, which is scheduled for Tuesday.
The bridge has been successfully tested.
ORIGINAL STORY: ST. JOSEPH, Mich. -- A CSX Railroad bridge is stuck in the closed position over the St. Joseph River, according to Harbormaster Mike Moran.
Moran says he received the report around 10:30 p.m., Sunday night.
The bridge sits at the at mile 0.67 over the river.
The report states the main drive gear which moves it up and down is damaged.
On Sunday night crew from CSX were on scene and working on the issue, but there is currently no estimated time of repair completion.
Moran said as of 10:50 a.m., Monday, the bridge remains in a closed position.
Boats which can safely travel under the closed bridge may do so at any time, while others must wait for repairs to be done.
Moran plans to release updates throughout the day, Monday.
