ELKHART COUNTY, Ind. -- Crossroads United Way in Elkhart announced $845,000 in grants on Tuesday, with $187,000 allocated as emergency aid for Elkhart, LaGrange, Noble, and Steuben Counties.
Officials with the non-profit say the funds will support 18 organizations addressing food, energy, and medication needs exacerbated by inflation, war, and tariffs.
The organization aims to meet immediate needs, such as providing gas for commuting and food for children, while also working on long-term systemic issues like housing and childcare.
The emergency aid also aims to prevent further crises and support community resilience.
