BERRIEN COUNTY, Mich. -- UPDATE: The driver was identified as 69-year-old Christopher Anthony Salvador of Granger, who died at the scene.
ORIGINAL STORY: The Berrien County Sheriff's Office reports on Tuesday, July 2, around 8:31 p.m., first responders were dispatched to a two-vehicle crash with injuries in the 3000 block of S. 11th Street in Niles Township.
Authorities say the crash involved a commercial dump truck and a passenger car.
When deputies and first responders arrived on scene, they discovered the driver of the car was entrapped and not breathing.
Despite their efforts authorities say the driver, later identified as a 69-year-old Granger man, was pronounced dead at the scene shortly after.
The Berrien County Sheriff’s Office Accident Investigation Team was called in to investigate the incident.
The report states the preliminary findings indicate the car was exiting a private driveway onto S. 11th Street and failed to yield to the oncoming dump truck, resulting in the crash.
The deceased driver's identity is currently being withheld pending notification of family.
The crash remains under investigation by the Berrien County Sheriff’s Office.
