Crash in Middlebury injures two

ELKHART COUNTY, Ind. – The Elkhart Sheriff’s Office responded to a crash just north of Middlebury Friday night at 7:30 p.m. According to officials, a car hit a horse drawn buggy as it was turning.

The crash happened October 2nd on County Road 8 near the intersection with County Road 12.

Neel Patel was driving a 2017 Acura ILX north on CR 8 behind a northbound horse drawn buggy.

The buggy slowed down and signaled to turn left into a driveway, though Patel tried to pass.

Patel’s car hit the buggy in the driver’s side, causing damage to both vehicles and giving injuries to both people inside the buggy.

Harlan Borkholder, the buggy’s driver, had minor shoulder injuries whereas his passenger, Brenda Borkholder was treated on the scene by Middlebury Medics for a laceration to her face.

Patel was cited for improper passing in a no-passing zone.

Patel was wearing his seat belt and neither drugs nor alcohol were contributing factors.
