Convicted killer charged in murder of Jarina Bailey

A man who is already in prison for killing an 18-year-old is now facing one count of murder in the death of Jarina Bailey in 2013.

Bailey and two others were shot at a car wash at 1804 Lincolnway West in South Bend on July 21, 2013. Bailey died 24 hours later.

Jermaine Munn allegedly shot Bailey while attempting to shoot at another person at the car wash, according to the probable cause affidavit.

After the shooting, Munn admitted to investigators with the County Metro Homicide Unit that he was at the car wash on the night of the shooting. He told police he had a .25-caliber handgun at the car wash that morning, according to the probable cause affidavit.

Munn told investigators he did not fire a gun at the car wash.

According to witnesses who spoke with police, before the shooting, Munn was waving a 9-mm handgun and said he wanted to kill Justin Stewart, a member of a rival gang, according to the probable cause affidavit.

Several people told police Munn had talked about what happened at the car wash that night. He allegedly told others he was shooting at Justin Stewart and hit Bailey by mistake.

Munn also allegedly told someone he didn't feel guilty about killing Bailey because he called her and told her to get out before the shooting, according to the probable cause affidavit.

He also allegedly told an acquaintance he traded the 9-mm used in the shooting for a Tec-9 semiautomatic handgun, then someone else was "caught" with that gun, according to the probable cause affidavit.

The St. Joseph County Prosecutor's Office filed charges against Munn on July 11.

Nathan Hall murder
On April 16, 2014, 16-year-old Jermaine Munn Jr and Shane Williams agreed to rob Nathan Hall of marijuana and money.

According to the facts of the case provided in the appeal, Williams pretended to buy marijuana from Hall. Munn then approached with a gun to rob them.

When Munn demanded money from Hall and Williams, Hall said, "Shane, are you going to do me this way?"

Munn then said, "He knows your name?" and shot Hall in the face. Hall died at the scene.

Munn and Williams took marijuana and $80 cash from Hall and fled the scene.

Munn and Williams were both charged with murder and robbery in June 2014.

Munn and Williams each pleaded guilty to murder and the robbery charges were dismissed.

Williams was sentenced to 60 years in prison, Munn was sentenced to 65 years in prison.

Munn unsuccessfully appealed his sentence.

He filed for post-conviction relief on July 12, 2016.
