ELKHART, Ind. -- Students at Concord East Side Elementary School in Elkhart set up a Field of Flags in partnership with Disabled American Veterans to honor local veterans and raise money to support sick and injured veterans.
This is their first year participating in the Field of Flags campaign and each donated flag represents a veteran in someone's life.
For the last 10 years, third grade teacher Vanessa Veile has set up a white table, in relation to Margot Raven's book America's White Table, to honor the veterans who don't make it home every year.
Veile stated, "Just this morning, I heard an amazing parent respond to me, telling me how thankful that they are, that East Side does so much for the veterans, that we honor them, but then we also make sure that we teach the kids."
