South Bend standoff ends without arrest
SOUTH BEND, Ind. -- Chicago Cubs left-handed pitcher Drew Smyly will make a rehab-assignment start for the South Bend Cubs Monday during their Independence Day clash with the Wisconsin Timber Rattlers at 7:05 p.m., according to multiple Chicago media outlets.
Smyly has been on the injured list with an oblique injury since last pitching for the north-siders on May 30 against the Milwaukee Brewers, tossing three shutout innings at Wrigley Field.
This is the 33-year-olds first South Bend rehab assignment since August of 2018.
While Smyly is expected to start, it’s unclear how many innings the big-leaguer will pitch.
