Charges filed against suspect who was injured after being tased

LA PORTE COUNTY, Ind. -- Charges have been filed against the man who suffered facial injuries after being tased by Michigan City Police Tuesday afternoon, according to court records.

Michigan City Police officers were searching for two suspects when they encountered Tahir Kelly. He initially gave police a false name, according to the body camera video of the incident.

One of the officers asked Kelly to turn around, and he ran from the officers.

An officer shot Kelly with a taser, causing Kelly to land on his face, the video showed.

While awaiting an ambulance, Kelly was discovered with a handgun in his possession.

Police took the gun and secured it, according to the video.

On Friday, Kelly was charged with carrying a handgun without a license, resisting law enforcement and false identity statement.

A warrant has been issued for his arrest.
