SOUTH BEND, Ind. -- The Indiana ILEARN test scores came out Wednesday with 41% of students in grades 3rd through 8th are ELA proficient and 40.7% are proficient in math, still lower than pre-pandemic levels.
Those results show stagnant process from the 2023, with math scores down less than half a percent and language scores up less than half a percent.
Seven in ten still did not score proficient on both portions of the exam.
A new plan is hoping to close that gap, by testing students three times a year in order that they are able to check in with their progress.
70% of schools across Indiana will participate in an assessment trial program this school year.
The program will roll out fully for the 2025-2026 school year.
Secretary of Education Katie Jenner and other State Board of Education Members believe the right answer now is changing their approach of getting there.
"We have work to do. We know that. We're going to continue to roll up our sleeves as educators, and also work with our families. It has to be a partnership,” said Dr. Jenner at Wednesday’s Board Meeting.
