Cass County Clerk Register partners with free service to protect residents against 'house stealing'

CASS COUNTY, Mich. -- Cass County Clerk Register Monica McMichael announced her office has partnered with Property Fraud Alert, a free notification service, to protect county residents against potential property fraud.

The alert system is designed to notify citizens when properties may be linked to fraudulent activity.

County officials say property fraud, often referred to as “house stealing,” is a growing issue nationwide.

Officials say fraudsters use stolen identities to file fake deeds or other legal documents, making it appear they own a property.

Results of this fraud include devastating financial and legal consequences for real property owners.

“Our goal is to provide the tools and resources necessary to help our citizens protect their most valuable assets,” McMichael said. “With Property Fraud Alert, residents can rest easy knowing they’ll be immediately informed of any suspicious activity involving their property.”

Officials say signing up is quick and straightforward, and residents can enroll online or by visiting the Cass County Clerk/Register’s Office at 120 N Broadway Suite 200 in Cassopolis.
