Buchanan's Pride on the Common event set for June 30
BUCHANAN, Mich. -- The popular Pride on the Common event will be back for 2024 as organizers have announced the celebration of the LGBTQ+ community will take place from 4 p.m. to 9 p.m. on June 30 in Buchanan.
"Buchanan’s inaugural Pride on The Common 2023 was a great success with over 450 people attending the event, and we were even blessed with a rainbow during the concert," said Adam Burck, Pride Committee Chair. “Our theme this year is Celebrating our Visibility, and there’s so much to celebrate on that front."
The Common is an outdoor stage located on S. Oak Street, in the heart of downtown Buchanan.
"The governor established the Michigan LGBTQ+ Commission in June of last year to ensure equal representation, amplify voices and foster a state where everyone, regardless of sexual orientation or gender identity, feels affirmed and valued," Burck said. "To celebrate all this Pride and Visibility in our area, the BASC Pride Committee has planned a vendor market and concert."
Organizers say they are bringing back Ultrafab band as the headliner this year, and DJ Chuck Fry will open and close the concert with very danceable DJ sets.
Event Schedule:
- 4 p.m.: Vendor booths and food trucks open
- 5 p.m.: DJ Chuck Fry @chuck.fry.35
- 6 p.m.: Ultrafab @ultrafabband
- 8 p.m.: DJ Chuck Fry
"The Pride Committee encourages you to come and enjoy the music and visit the wonderful vendor booths," said Burck. "Grab a picnic blanket, lawn chairs and your favorite goodies from one of our local restaurants or the food trucks on site and get ready to Celebrate our Visibility."
Other local Pride events in June:
- Harbor Country Pride/June 2-8
- Cass County PrideFest/Dowagiac/June 8
- Michiana PrideFest/Niles/June 15]
- Twin Cities PrideFest/Benton Harbor/June 22
Organizers say that local Pride celebrations will culminate with Pride on The Common June 30.
