BLM South Bend calls for temporary removal of Common Council President
ST. JOSEPH COUNTY, Ind. - Black Lives Matter (BLM) South Bend is calling for the removal of South Bend Common Council President Sharon McBride.
Just yesterday, we received notice that St. Joseph County is launching an investigation into the DuComb Center due to her involvement as Director at the facility.
BLM South Bend believes McBride has shown a pattern of intimidating and bullying Black organizers, elected officials, and Black women. They argue that she should only be reinstated after the investigation is complete.
"We are calling for the temporary removal of President Sharon Mcbride based on the allegations of ghost employment, misuse of county funds and dereliction of duties until the investigation is completed and findings are made public," BLM South Bend said in a press release. "This call for her removal is solely based on Sharon Mcbride’s performance and behavior, not her gender and race."
She was questioned about the accusations at a meeting on Tuesday and was upset by the situation.
“This is unfair, and this is a public shaming that I am a black female woman, one of four in the state of Indiana and only one in the county, and to have this type of meeting in a public setting and it's very embarrassing," said McBride.
