SOUTH BEND, Ind. -- South Bend Venues Parks and Arts teamed up with the Martin Luther King Dream Center this afternoon to host a Black History Month Skate Night over at Howard Park in downtown South Bend.
The event, outside of just providing a fun winter day on the ice, highlights the significance of black-owned businesses in our area.
"It's important because we just want to shine a light on things that are happening within this culture within this heritage locally here in South Bend, and you know, it's Black History Month, so obviously, but it's, it's a good time for us to take advantage of things that are outside of the norm in our culture. So skating is not something that's a predominantly activated, you know, predominant activity in this culture. So it's kind of a unique way to bring this about," stated Manager for the Martin Luther King Dream Center Stefanie Coleman.
The skating featured a live DJ, skating lessons, and a performance by The Dream Detroit Skating Club.
