Berrien County Trial Court warns residents of jury scam phone calls
ABC57 BERRIEN COUNTY, Mich. -- Several reports of a phone scam involving jury duty have been received by the Berrien County Trial Court.
Court officials say citizens are being contacted via phone by a seemingly local number. The caller is said to then identify themselves as a local law enforcement official before telling the victim they failed to appear for jury duty.
Court officials say the caller may even reference fake case numbers or the names of real local officials, including judges.
The scammer will then tell the victim they must pay a fine over the phone or by using a payment platform like PayPal, Cash App, Zelle, etc.
Court officials say this is not from the Berrien County Trial Court. The court communicates with residents about jury-related matters by USPS.
If you believe you have been targeted by this or any other jury-related scam, contact the jury office at [email protected] or 269-983-7111, ext. 8347.
