ST. JOSEPH, Mich. – Dozens of community members gathered in St Joseph Wednesday for the annual national peace officer memorial service.
The remembrance event honors law enforcement officers who paid the ultimate price.
Wednesday's event honored the 20 law enforcement officials who have lost their lives dating back to 1907 while serving Berrien County.
Each fallen officer had a flower placed on the law enforcement memorial as recognition of their service and dedication to the community.
While still a sad affair, many families look forward to the ceremony each year, as it’s a rare chance for them to share with other people who have gone through the pain of losing a loved one.
The memorial is located across from the Krasl Art Center and is open for visiting to anyone looking to pay their respects.
