Berrien County bridge to receive maintenance via barge that will impact water traffic

St. Joseph Harbormaster Michael Moran

SAINT JOSEPH, Mich. -- The United States Coast Guard has announced upcoming maintenance to a CSX Railroad Bridge will close the waterway to vessel traffic as there will be a 50’x80’ barge working on the wooden protection system, or fendering, around the bridge.

From July 8 to August 16, the barge will be in place for repairs from 6 a.m. to 6 p.m. EDT.

"The barge will move to accommodate vessel traffic if a two-hour advance notice is provided directly to the barge on VHF-FM Marine Channel 16," the Coast Guard said.

The bridge is located at mile 0.67 over the St. Joe River.
