Benton Harbor man taken into custody after Halloween homicide in Sister Lakes
VAN BUREN COUNTY, Mich. -- A 23-year-old Benton Harbor man is in custody in relation to a breaking and entering on a residence in Sister Lakes that left one woman dead.
The call came into the Van Buren County Sheriff's Office around 5:15 a.m. on Thursday morning.
"Upon their arrival, an unresponsive female was located at the residence," the VBCSO said. "Life saving measures were taken to try to save the female, but she succumbed to her injuries."
The suspect was found nearby and taken into custody. Both the name of the suspect and the name of the victim are being withheld by authorities at this time as the investigation is ongoing.
The victim was 55 years old and a resident of Sister Lakes.
"Uniform Response was dispatched to a Break-in in Progress in Keeler Township," the VBCSO notes on Nov. 1 stated. "The caller advised dispatchers her son was breaking-in and gave dispatchers his name prior to him gaining entry. While numerous agencies where enroute, he gained entry and took her life. He was taken into custody shortly after law enforcement arrived on scene and set up a perimeter in the neighborhood. I would ask that you keep the family in your prayers as well as everyone involved with the call."
