SOUTH BEND, Ind. -- Bashor Children’s Home announced a partnership with the Indiana University South Bend (IUSB) School of Social Work to host free discussion called “Human Trafficking in Our Community: What You Need to Know,” on Friday from 10 a.m. to noon.

The discussion is also held in collaboration with Child and Parent Services (CAPS) and the Indiana Trafficking Victims Assistance Program (ITVAP).

This free panel discussion is open to the public, but registration is required due to limited seating.

The event will feature experts on the prevalence of human trafficking in the local area, who will debunk common myths, and offer actionable strategies to combat the issue.

“By partnering with IUSB, CAPS, and ITVAP, we are reinforcing our commitment to providing the community with accurate, reliable information on issues like child abuse, neglect and human trafficking,” said Mike Deranek, Chief Operating Officer at Bashor Children’s Home.

In addition, organizers say the event is beneficial for professionals continuing their education, with the session offering 2 CEUs and 2 CYC-Professionalism credits.

Organizers say the session is a great opportunity for social workers, child advocates, law enforcement, and others needing annual certification.

The discussion will take place in meeting rooms 221, 223, and 225 at the IUSB Student Activity Center located at 1800 Mishawaka Ave.
