SOUTH BEND, Ind. - The Art and Social Justice Exhibit held at the Colfax Gallery has closed for the year after being active most of the summer.
Artisans with their work featured in the gallery gathered together on Saturday for a reception, which allowed community members to visit, explore and learn more about how each piece relates to social justice.
Issues tackled by the gallery included domestic and crime-based violence, climate change, abuse, racial and gender inequalities and more.
Kristin Givens, the Director of Marketing and Strategy with the South Bend Heritage Foundation, says that the community has had a strong reaction to the gallery ever since it first opened 34 years ago.
"It's a topic that South Bend Heritage feels very strongly about. We're definitely a community of people in South Bend that are interested in the topic as well, so we all just come together for this common goal to celebrate social justice and bring awareness to these issues." said Givens.
More than 40 different pieces were featured overall in the event.
