MICHIGAN CITY, Ind. -- The Michigan City Police Department (MCPD) announced on Wednesday that an animal abuse investigation has advanced to a probable cause review after the MCPD identified a suspect.
On Wednesday, Jan. 28, MCPD and Michigan City Animal Control were notified of an animal abuse video shared publicly on social media that had originated from Michigan City neighborhood surveillance footage.
The video shows a man hitting a dog with a leash while on a walk. Other videos of the same incident also show the man choking and kneeling on the dog.
Over the following days, MCPD identified the location of the video, obtained more surveillance footage, identified a suspect, and conducted a welfare check on the dog involved in the video.
Following this investigation, MCPD submitted the case to the La Porte County Prosecutor's Office for a probable cause review.
MCPD plans to release more information as the review process continues.
