ELKHART COUNTY, Ind. -- UPDATE: All lanes traveling west and east bound on the bypass are back open, after being shut down due to a major vehicle pile-up.

ORIGINAL STORY: According to the Elkhart County Sheriff's Office, a seven-vehicle pile-up happened around 10:45 p.m. in the first of two incidents.

A deputy responded to a vehicle in a ditch on U.S. 20 east of C.R. 9, which caused traffic to back up in the heavy smoke. That later is believed to have caused several crashes leading to the pile-up. A 49-year-old woman was taken to the hospital for non-life-threatening injuries. Nobody was cited in this incident.

Drugs and alcohol are not believed to be a factor in this crash.

Another pile-up crash happened later, east of U.S. 33 near S.R. 19. ABC57 is still working to confirm how many people were involved in the second incident and if there are any injuries.
