HARTFORD TOWNSHIP, Mich. -- A 50-year-old Allegan, Michigan man is facing several felony charges after fleeing in his vehicle from a traffic stop on Tuesday afternoon.

The Van Buren County Sheriff's Office reports its Narcotics Unit was notified around 4:09 p.m. of a man driving a red 2019 Buick Encore in the Hartford area in possession of a large amount of methamphetamine.

Detectives and road patrol deputies located the suspect vehicle and attempted a traffic stop after observing traffic violations.

The report states the driver, later identified as David Paul Lemay, then pulled into the Four Winds Casino parking lot, but failed to stop once authorities activated their emergency lights and siren.

Lemay continued through the lot before heading east on Red Arrow Highway toward Hartford.

A pursuit began and as Lemay entered Hartford, officers with the Pokagon Tribal Police Department deployed spike strips, causing the Buick to leave the road and enter a nearby parking lot.

Lemay then stopped the vehicle in the lot where he was taken into custody.

Authorities searched the vehicle resulting in the seizure of about one ounce of methamphetamine, a stolen 9mm handgun under passenger seat, and an open pint of whiskey beneath the driver’s seat.

Authorities confirmed the firearm was reported stolen from Cass County on June 4.

Lemay was taken to the Van Buren County Jail.

Lemay was found to have an active bench warrant from Berrien County for Failure to Appear, along with two Failure to Appear warrants from Allegan County Friend of the Court.

Lemay is charged with Fleeing and Eluding, Possession with Intent to Deliver Methamphetamine, Possession of a Stolen Handgun, Carrying a Concealed Weapon, Felon in Possession of a Firearm, Felon in Possession of Ammunition, Possession of a Firearm During the Commission of a Felony, Open Intoxicants in a Motor Vehicle, and Fugitive Arrest.
