Families in St. Joseph County finding fun ways to cool off
ST. JOSEPH COUNTY, Ind. -- Today is the hottest day of twenty twenty-six so far, and we've still got two more days like this ahead, but instead of letting the heat keep families inside, many families are finding ways to have fun.
Running into summer, kids are making the most of Tuesday's hot weather.
From splashing through the fountains to laughing with friends, the Mishawaka Central Park Splash Pad was the place to beat the heat.
Kamiya White enjoyed every minute of it.
"When I came here it was so fun and I got my hair wet," said White.
White says she couldn't wait to visit the splash pad with her grandparents and siblings.
"So we have played on the water, we have standed under the water, we sat in the water. We went to that side of the park and we ran around too," said White.
But for Kamiya, the splash pad isn't the only highlight of the day.
"Playing in the splash pad is good and all, but ice cream is way better," said White.
Many families crave a little ice cream to cool off with a sweet treat.
At Urban Swirl, Brenda Hesther says finding simple ways to keep her son active is a big part of their summer routine.
"Definitely taking advantage of all of the parks. We love biking. My five-year-old son, we just put in a new seat on my bike so yes, just hitting the trails and the splash pads, that's a big one," said Hesther.
Families we talked to say they're making the most of the heatwave and enjoying their summer break.
