Crash in Goshen sends one to hospital, 17-year-old driver cited for failure to yield and drug offenses

ELKHART COUNTY, Ind. --The Elkhart County Sheriff's Office is currently investigating a two-vehicle crash near 17746 C.R. 34 in Goshen, which occurred Thursday, around 7:50 p.m.

The report states a 2021 Subaru Forester, driven by a 17-year-old girl from Elkhart, was traveling west on C.R. 34, just west of 17746 C.R. 34.

A 2012 Chevrolet Silverado, driven by 34-year-old Justin Hughes of Elkhart, was traveling east on C.R. 34, just east of 17746 C.R. 34.

Authorities say the Forester then turned into the path of Hughes, causing the Forester to crash into the front driver side of Hughes.

Both vehicles sustained heavy front-end damage.

The Forester had four passengers, all three juvenile girls. One of the girls was taken to Goshen hospital with non-life-threatening injuries to their face.

Another girl had complaints of pain. Two of the girls weren't wearing their seatbelts at the time of the crash.

All other involved parties were wearing their seatbelts.

The 17-year-old driver is being investigated for operating while intoxicated. Toxicology results are pending.

The 17-year-old was also cited for failure to yield, possession of marijuana, possession of paraphernalia, and possession of tobacco.
