57 Minute Miracle surprises South Bend mother in need of medical help for daughter
SOUTH BEND, Ind. -- With the help of an employee at Bonitas Boutique in South Bend, the 57 Minute Miracle team surprises a single mother whose daughter is suffering from severe eczema.
The employee, Nancy Felton, said Eva Leon, this mother had just stopped in the day before asking for prayers for her daughter.
Those prayers quickly turned into a miracle.
At first, Eva hid behind the door when ABC 57's Jess Arnold and team surprised her, but when they presented her with $570, she immediately broke down into tears.
"I don’t even know what to say. Thank you, but...my daughter is still sick. She is always sleeping. She doesn’t like for others to see her pictures but I’ve been looking for help. But I can’t. They can’t find a cure. This is my daughter of 15 years. She’s wanted to commit suicide, because she’s tired," said Eva Leon.
Her 15-year-old daughter is suffering from a severe case of eczema.
“Since 2007/2008 I’ve been dealing with my daughter’s disease. But the doctors say it’s one thing, or another. I give her medications steroids, pills but nothing is sitting well with her. So, right now since June her condition has worsened. I imagine it’s painful because she says ‘Mami, I feel like my face is burned.’ It hurts me," said Eva.
She says she feels especially bad, because she's a single mother, and she and her kids have suffered a lot from domestic violence.
She also has a granddaughter to look after.
“Yesterday, she went to the store and she was asking for a place to go to pray, because her daughter was you know. That’s why I think about her, because I told my pastor to pray for her, and that’s why this is like a miracle for us," said Nancy.
“I don’t know how to thank you for coming," said Eva.
We're happy to report that we have already received offers to help Eva after the story aired.
