NAPPANEE, Ind. -- The 49th annual Nappanee Apple Festival is underway, expected to draw in more than 10x the small town’s population.
ABC57’s Jackie Bauer checked out the main attraction, a 600-pound, 7-foot-wide apple pie made with 16 bushels of apples, 100 pounds of dough, and baked with lots of help and love, after removing a wall to get it into the oven.
“Come out tomorrow morning,” said Mim Hartman, the chief pie baker. “It will start cutting at 11 o’clock on Friday and be gone by 3 o’clock on Saturday every year. Somebody says we should do two pies… not in my lifetime,” she added.
The pie bakes for 17 hours and will be ready to serve up Friday morning.
The festival will run through Sunday with lots of apple cider, donuts, and live entertainment between a full schedule of events.
The full schedule and more information can be found on their website.
