Person found dead after suspected hit-and-run in Starke County

STARKE COUNTY, Ind. -- Deputies with the Stark County Sheriff's Department were dispatched to the area of CR 350 W. and CR 500 S. following a report of an unresponsive individual lying alongside the highway.

At approximately 5:52 p.m., on June 27, emergency responders located the individual deceased. Initial reports from responding deputies observed injuries consistent with the individual having been struck by a vehicle.

Deputies also recovered what appears to be vehicle debris in the roadway near the scene; however, no involved vehicle was present.

Based on evidence recovered during the investigation, investigators believe the suspect vehicle is a black passenger car with front-end damage.

The identity of the deceased is being withheld pending notification of next of kin.
