37-year-old man charged with Resisting Law Enforcement after striking officer with car

ELKHART, Ind. -- Bradley Routhier, a 37-year-old man, has been charged with Resisting Law Enforcement Causing Serious Bodily Injury as a Level 4 Felony, Possession of Methamphetamine as a Level 6 Felony, and Operating a Vehicle While Intoxicated Endangering a Person as a Misdemeanor.
On Friday, Sept. 5, Elkhart officers received a tip that Routhier, who had an outstanding Level 5 Felony Violation of Probation warrant for burglary, was at the residence of 25190 Rex Street in Elkhart.
Upon arrival, officers noted a red Jeep Liberty parked in the driveway. They made themselves known and identified the man inside as Routhier.
When officers ordered Routhier to leave the vehicle, he put the car into drive and drove at an officer, striking him and causing the officer to go over the hood onto the windshield and back onto the ground.
Routhier fled the scene of the crash, and the officer was transported to Elkhart General Hospital.
Routhier was then located in the same Liberty near the area of Henke Street and Kershne Lane in Elkhart. Upon being discovered, Routhier fled the vehicle and ran from police. An officer tazed Routhier and he was taken into custody.
Routhier was found to be in possession of a white crystal substance weighing 0.6 grams that field tested positive for methamphetamine. Routhier allegedly reported he had smoked methamphetamine earlier that morning as well.
Upon being read his Miranda rights, Routhier reported that his lawyer told him to lay low and not turn himself in, that his friend had hit someone with the Jeep Liberty, and that he had not seen police at the Rex residence.
Routhier was incarcerated at the Elkhart County Jail for his outstanding warrants and the additional charges above.
His first court date has not been set yet.
