13-year-old damages home while driving friend’s car

MISHAWAKA, Ind. -- A 13-year-old girl was taken into custody after she borrowed the car of a friend to go on a ‘joy ride,’ and backed into a house, according to Mishawaka Police.

Around 2 p.m. Thursday, police were called to the 400 block of E 10th Street.

The investigation revealed the 13-year-old borrowed the car from a friend so she could go on a joy ride, police said.

She backed the car up, lost control and backed into a house, police said.

The crash heavily damaged the porch and cracked the foundation of the home, police said.

The juvenile was detained at the Juvenile Justice Center and had a date to be there on Friday.

There were no injuries.
