Michiana voters will hit the polls tomorrow to decide on municipal races, including eight mayoral contests.

In Michigan, Benton Harbor Mayor Marcus Muhammad is seeking a third term in office facing community activist Gwen Johnson.

The people of Goshen will decide whether or not to keep their current interim mayor in office, Democrat Gina Leichty, who faces off against Republican Benjamin Rogers.

Longtime Mayor Jeremy Stutsman chose not to run again this year.

Both candidates are calling for community members to make their voices heard.

“it’s the local elections that really impact people the most how things are operating in your hometown community are determined on who’s leading the charge locally,” said Leichty.

For Rogers every vote matters.

"Low voter turnout in a city election really means that your vote matters more than ever you look at the national elections you look at the state elections, and that usually holds a lot more voters," he said. "When a lot of the decisions that people are concerned about are made in their own backyard, and they’re made here on the city level. “

Plymouth will have a new mayor by this time tomorrow, as the position is open for the first time in 15 years.

Republican candidate Greg Compton will face off against Democratic candidate Robert Listenberger for the mayoral seat replacing the city's longtime Mayor Mark Senter who decided against another term.

The two opponents took to their first Mayoral debate on October 25, discussing a topic high on the community's priority list: healthcare.

This discussion follows the shrinking of multiple St. Joseph Health System services in Marshall County over the last year.

Listenberger pledged be a voice on the healthcare committee, if elected.

“I know a group of leaders across Marshall County who have been regularly meeting to address the healthcare provider issue. As your mayor, I am eager to join them," he said.

Compton advocated to either work with St. Joe Hospital to improve the community or to bring in another hospital to fulfill those services.

South Bend's incumbent Mayor James Mueller is running against Republican candidate Desmont Upchurch.

Michigan City, Knox, La Porte and Three Rivers also have mayoral races on the ballot.
