Wet roads possibly a factor in Wednesday morning Cass County crash

CASS COUNTY, Mich. -- The Cass County Sheriff's Office responded to crash that left one vehicle in a bean field near the intersection of Topash Street and Townhall Road in Silver Creek Township on Wednesday morning.

Authorities say reports of a two-vehicle came in around 6:24 a.m. and initial investigation indicates a vehicle driven by 64-year-old Jody Carl Prak of Dowagiac stopped at the stop sign on Topash Street, but then proceeded into the path of a vehicle driven by 54-year-old Robert Levi McCarthy, also of Dowagiac.

Authorities say the roads were wet, and McCarthy could not avoid the collision and hit Prak, sending the vehicle into a nearby bean field.

Prak was transported to Lakeland St. Joseph Hospital for injuries sustained in the traffic crash and, while McCarthy sustained injuries, he refused medical treatment at the scene.

Authorities say alcohol was not a factor in the crash and seatbelts were worn.
