UPDATE: Former Westview School Corporation superintendent releases apology letter after resignation

UPDATE TWO: Former Westview School Corporation Superintendent Dr. Randall Miller released the following letter of apology to the community:
"A Sincere Apology to the Westview Community - Dr. Randall Miller
To the Westview Students, Staff, Families, and Community Members.
I write to you today with a heavy heart and the deepest sense of regret. Having been born and raised in this community, this place has always been my home and my anchor. The values I was taught here, the people who shaped me, and the standards we hold dear have long grounded me in purpose and service. But recently, I made a serious mistake that frayed the rope connecting me to that anchor.
My actions were inexcusable. I failed in my judgment and betrayed the trust you placed in me. I know the expectations of this community because they are the same ones that raised me. I violated those expectations, and in doing so, I brought shame not only upon myself, but also upon the community I love.
Since the incident, I have spent time in reflection and prayer, recognizing the seriousness of what I've done and the harm it has caused. I know that words alone are not enough. I must begin the work of repairing and strengthening what is damaged strand by strand. I realize that apologies must be followed by genuine change, and I'm committed to doing the hard, ongoing work of earning back your trust through humility, accountability, and consistent actions that reflect integrity.
My faith is central to that journey. I have strayed from the values that should guide my leadership and my life. I am committed to returning God to the center of my heart and to allowing that renewed focus to shape me into a better person, a better leader, and a more faithful servant to others.
To our students, families, staff, and neighbors, I am profoundly sorry. I understand the disappointment and hurt my actions have caused and carry the weight of that responsibility. I will truly miss working with my Westview colleagues.
To the Westview Board of School Trustees, I owe you my sincerest apologies. I recognize the unfair and difficult position I have placed you in, and I respect your duty to act in the best interest of our students and staff. I regret the burden I have caused and thank you for your continued service.
To our teachers, administrators, and support staff, thank you for your unwavering dedication to give our students your best, even in this difficult time. Your strength and professionalism keep our community strong.
I love this community, and I am committed to working toward reflecting those values again within myself. No matter what my future holds, I will remain a supporter of Westview and its mission to serve children with excellence.
Thank you for holding me accountable. Thank you for your patience. And most of all, thank you for the grace I do not deserve, but for which I am extremely grateful.
With my deepest apologies.
Dr. Randall Miller"

ORIGINAL STORY: LAGRANGE COUNTY, Ind. -- The LaGrange County Sheriff's Office reports Westview School Corporation Superintendent Randall Miller has been charged with Operating while Intoxicated with Alcohol Content over .15 and Operating while Intoxicated Causing Endangerment.
Miller was booked into jail over the weekend.
Keith Lambright, President of the Board of Trustees for Westview School Corporation released the following statement on Tuesday regarding Miller:
"Dear Westview Schools Community:
Our parents, staff, students, and patrons expect and deserve highly professional and principled leadership at our school. When these expectations are not met, the Westview School must promptly take corrective steps. Unfortunately, the school board now finds itself having to take such action.
On Sunday evening, August 31, Dr. Randy Miller, Westview Schools' superintendent, was arrested on three charges for operating a vehicle while intoxicated. Upon learning of his arrest, the Westview school board immediately placed Dr. Miller on administrative leave. Effective today, previous superintendent, Dr. Randy Zimmerly will return and serve as interim superintendent of Westview School Corporation. We look forward to Dr. Zimmerly's steady and knowledgeable leadership.
The school board will hold a special executive session meeting this Thursday evening to discuss Dr. Miller's employment status. While Dr. Miller's arrest is a serious matter of the highest order, he is legally entitled to procedural safeguards which the school board must and will follow. Rest assured that the school board will act promptly in the best interests of our students, staff, and community and in a transparent fashion.
After Thursday's executive session, the school board will provide our community with its anticipated course of action. Until that time, we are unable to offer any additional information. Rest assured, however, that the school board will continue to hold all of our educators, including Dr. Miller, to the highest standards of professional conduct. No one with a lesser moral character can lead our students.
As always, thank you for your support of Westview School Corporation."
